Laminated glass is made by bonding two or more layers of glass together using a special polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer under heat and pressure. Laminated glass reduces the risk of injury by holding the pieces in place in the event of breakage. In addition to this feature, laminated glass is also preferred for its ability to prevent or delay unwanted transitions from one side to the other. Due to these properties, laminated glass is classified as safety and security glass, making it a standard and typical solution for applications such as showcase windows, sloped or overhead glazing, and the inner glass of double-glazed units. Laminated glass is also beneficial due to its low UV permeability, helping to preserve the natural colors of items for a longer time.
